Iraq is falling apart, our
economy is in the toilet and the current administration is the most duplicitous in the long history of our country. The media
continues to fail in their responsibility to the American public. CNN coverage this morning annoyed me and the following letters
were sent to Jack Cafferty:
My response to his on air question about our thoughts concerning the progress
in Iraq
The situation in Iraq is a disgrace. If it weren't for the fact that we currently have a one party
government controlled by the Republicans, President Bush would be facing impeachment and his forcible removal from office.
The American public was lied to about the justification for the Iraqi invasion. The casualty figures are being downplayed
with a carefully controlled dissemination of the facts. Now the military are being told to keep a "lid" on things until after
the election. Our president wouldn't want any negative news showing up and distorting the pretty picture he worked so hard
to create. Contrary to the "bedtime story" Mr. Bush is trying so desperately to sell to us, Iraq is a nightmare which will
haunt us for decades.
My response to a snide comment Mr. Cafferty made about Dan Rather
I
was appalled by your snide comment about Dan Rather and his story about President Bush's questionable military records. While
I agree the authenticity of the actual documents begs further investigation, your personal attack on Mr. Rather is further
proof that today's media goes for the easy and trite rather than have to do some serious investigation of their own. The real
question in addition to the authenticity of the documents should be about the content of the documents. If the facts prove
true this president's every decision and every statement needs an intense scrutiny because it will prove how capable he is
in the art of intentional fabrication.
Presently you and most of your colleagues do nothing more than regurgitate
facts fed to them by the current administration. It amazes me because the media couldn't wait to out report each other when
the story concerned the sex life of our former president. At that time the majority of journalists justified their almost
titillating interest in the incident by saying President Clinton's character had an impact on the presidency. Now it seems
you have all reversed your thinking about the connection between the character of President Bush and its impact on his presidency.
Hypothetically I ask you, "If President Bush disobeyed a direct order, was suspended and was stripped of his flight wings,
doesn't his subsequent behavior become a dreadful farce?" He creates a major photo-op for himself by landing on a carrier
dressed in a full flight suit. He declares the major offensive over. He makes the absurd threat to "bring 'em on".
So
instead of all the pot shots it would better serve us if the illustrious "Fourth Estate" concentrated on doing some investigative
work and cleared up this issue once and for all.

Once again our illustrious leader takes a fact,
deliberately manipulates it and feeds it back to us poor stupid citizens. Mr.
Bush made an amazing speech at the Republican Convention about how well the situation was progressing in Iraq. Flowery adjectives flowed as his audience jumped to their feet cheering their war time Commander-in-Chief
for his correctness in invading Iraq and his magnificent handling of the occupation. Star
struck journalists, overcome by emotion couldn’t find strong enough statements to describe President Bush’s performance. Here is where I get to enjoy a “yeah, but” to my Republican friends.
When Mr. Bush presented his rosy picture of the
positive situation in Iraq, he knew he was lying. He had received a classified
National Intelligence Estimate in late July that spelled out a bleak outcome for Iraq’s future. The results of this extremely pessimistic report are in complete opposition to what the president wants
us to believe.
Out of three rotten possibilities, the best estimate
is a tenuous stability in political, economic and security terms. The worst possibility
is the onset of a civil war. So, . . .We are spending a million dollars a day,
over a thousand of our military personnel have died, thousands of our young men and women have been wounded, there are no
WMD’s, the majority of the world hates us, there were incalculable civilian casualties, insurrection is increasing daily,
there are now more terrorist cells than ever and the best we can hope for is a tenuous situation. From this our leader extracts the basis for his acceptance speech.
Mr. Bush appeared before a unit of the National
Guard this week and repeated the same pathetic lies in his efforts to prove his capability as a “war” president. He and his posse of similarly conscience deprived individuals
have no qualms about their lying. Lying to fool voters is a good thing. Why confuse us with too many real facts? This
tight little group does not need the approval of their public. Only they know
what is best and what is best is to keep the undeserving masses in the dark. A
new day has dawned and guess just who gets to play king?
A multiple choice
President Bush is:
A. A liar
B. Delusional
C. Arrogant
D. Under-qualified
E. The worst president
in the history of our country
F. All of the
above
The Answer
All of the above

Things Bothering Me Today
A National Guard unit from South Carolina now awaiting deployment
from Fort
Dix in
New Jersey had to have a disciplinary lockdown. The battalion is scheduled to leave
for a year or more in Iraq. These soldiers will be based in Northern Kuwait and will escort supply convoys into
Iraq which is one of the most hazardous of all assignments. As of today the
Pentagon is relying on the National Guard and the Reserves to provide 40% of the troop strength in the escalating hostilities. Over the last two months the troops have received only 36 hours of leave. The base commander claims ugly confrontations and brawls forced the lockdown. These civilian soldiers have not been able to say a proper good bye to their families. They are also complaining the accelerated two month training fails to put them at the same level of preparedness
as regular army troops. Fear and resentment seem to be the direct cause of the
volatile situation at Fort Dix.
Does it occur to anyone else that our president
has made a mess of the situation in Iraq? Does anyone else see how this situation is only going
to get worse? If our troops are demoralized before even leaving our shores, what
shape will they be in after 12, 18, 24 or 36 months?
In his radio address yesterday President Bush
assured Americans of the continuing improvement of the situation in Iraq. He
also told us violence would be escalating.
I go around saying Huh quite a bit lately. It’s better, it’s worse, the future is bright, we’re safer, we still
face danger – I wish our leader would come up with just one coherent message which I don’t have to replay over
and over in an attempt to understand. He of course refused to address the official
report he’s had since July which emphatically states the future is pretty grim.
The president is making his third trip south
in response to the hurricane damage.
My heart goes out to all those affected by the
horrible coincidence of three major hurricanes hitting the south this year but Mr. Bush you can’t do anything on a personal
level for these poor people. You being photographed handing out ice will make
a great publicity picture for your resume but is getting in the way of the serious efforts being made by these people to recover. Instead of burning up tax payer money to fly you to Florida on Air Force One, use the cash
to help rebuild affected areas. Instead of showing up stay out of the way. They don’t need you and your hordes of security measures. Stay home.
For the first time in our history outside monitors
will be watch dogs during our presidential election on November 2nd.
We have now become a banana republic. Why doesn’t that frighten anyone else?

Forty three days to go!
Forty three days from today Americans will cast
their votes for our next president. I can’t think of a time when the result
of an election will have such an impact on our futures. A vote for the Kerry/Edwards ticket is a vote for responsible government policies.
Today Senator John Kerry gave a rousing speech
before an audience at New York University which included families of 9/11 victims. Showing America a visage of strength
and resolve, Senator Kerry totally debunked Bush’s new rationale for war as well as Bush’s rosy but ridiculous
claim of our ongoing successes in Iraq. The president was accused, and rightly so, of making
the wrong choices which make us more, not less, vulnerable to terrorist attack. While
Senator Kerry admitted the Congressional vote giving the president authority to use force in Iraq was correct, the president
misused the authority by invading prematurely, without a real coalition, with faulty intelligence and with no plan to address
the problems in a post war country. Compounding his incompetence, the president
persistently lies to us about the long term prognosis.
Far from turning this speech into just a “Bush
blew it” rant, John Kerry outlined four immediate steps to be taken, if we are to have any chance of changing the impending
disaster.
First:
This week we must move to get real international support.
Second: Get serious about training Iraqi security
forces.
Third: Get the Iraqi reconstruction plan in gear.
Fourth: Take immediate, urgent, essential steps
to guarantee the promised elections next year.
This was a John Kerry who looked and spoke like
our next president. Every single undecided voter has to read Senator Kerry’s
speech in its entirety if they want to make a decision without the slant of the media.
October 1, 2004
Today has been a busy day for me as I wrote letters
to all the major media outlets. Needless to say, John Kerry hit a home run last
evening proving how important it is for us to cast our vote for him. The performance
of our sitting president was not only pathetic but scary. This is our leader. This is a man who impacts our lives in very important ways. This is a man who couldn’t string two sentences together without a teleprompter, not even if his
life depended on it. The only thing he was able to convince me of last
night was the importance of learning. President Bush is a poster boy for illiteracy. Laura, you really should give your husband some remedial lessons.
The following is the letter I sent to the New
York Times entitled, “The Alternate Universe of George Bush”.
I watched the debate last evening totally convinced
John Kerry not only won the debate but admirably demonstrated the qualities which we should be demanding from any candidate
aspiring to the highest office in our nation. Senator Kerry logically laid out
his plans to safeguard America against terrorist attack. He shared with us a common
sense approach which would end the quagmire in Iraq. He looked and sounded presidential. This was a man I could gladly trust.
In stark contrast, George Bush was incoherent,
stumbling, peevish and smug. I was left with the impression he had been primed
with five responses which he dutifully regurgitated on cue throughout the evening disregarding the actual questions posed
by the moderator. As I retired last evening, the polls I checked all agreed –
John Kerry won the debate hands down. There could be no other reasonable conclusion. I was wrong. When I awoke this morning
the “spin patrol” had been very busy working the media, who seem to eagerly acquiesce. Now we are being told President Bush was articulate and on message.
What message? I was embarrassed by our president’s performance. At times he rambled on leaving me perplexed as to what he was trying to say. This president has spent a lot of time trying to convince us of the correctness of
every one of his decisions, especially the decision to invade Iraq. He
clearly lacks the ability to defend his decisions in a clear coherent manner. The
message he sent me as he smirked into the cameras was – “I am the president.
Who are you to second guess me?”
A few minor points for President Bush
Doing, going seeing, lying, bombing all end with
a “g”. It is not doin, goin, seein, lyin, or bombing.
It is pronounced….nu-cle-ar! If you can’t pronounce it just say “big bomb”, we’ll get it.
It is. ….pro-lif-er-a’tion. Again, if you can’t pronounce it don’t use it.
Peninsula has no “h”.
It is “I am going to show you” not
“I’m goin ta show ya’.
When you’re at the podium….Stand
up straight. You looked like you were melting.
Knock off that “I’ve climbed the
mountain” nonsense. Unless Washington, DC has had a change to their topography, you don’t have a mountain there.
Do us all a favor; call in your answers next
week.

Miscellaneous Thoughts
Excuses, excuses
The Bushites continue to advance more and more
of their sad reasons their candidate blew the debate. Those who are still convinced
of Mr. Bush’s win are in a separate delusional category of their own – you know like Cheney still believing his
own story about WMD’s. Some of the more amusing:
Mr. Bush was tired from all the work he did helping
the residents of Florida recover from the hurricane damage.
He was tired because he usually goes to bed at
9:30 PM
His lighting was bad
He was nervous speaking in front of a crowd
John Kerry cheated
The TV cameras weren’t supposed to be on
him when he wasn’t speaking
Feeling sorry for the president, I offer him
a few more he has my permission to use:
English is my second language
Laura forgot to starch my shirt
I didn’t realize John Kerry would share
the stage with me
The questions were hard
I didn’t have my cheering section
I had to answer questions on my own because
the Big Dick was busy scaring voters
The podium kept moving, so I had to hold on tight
I’ve never had to answer questions before
Karl Rove told me Kerry had laryngitis and would
have to mime his answers
Kerry cheated by using big words like nuclear,
proliferation and peninsula
The first it is, then it’s not spin
Did you notice before the debate, its outcome
was made out to be Kerry’s last stand? All the pundits agreed it was Kerry’s
last chance to even remain in the running. It was also agreed by the media to
be just the icing on the sure fire re-election of Bush. The next day we are told
by these same geniuses that debates mean nothing. They apparently prove nothing. HUH?
When the president received a sizable bump in
numbers after the convention, we were told Kerry couldn’t possibly catch up. Polls
never lie. Bush’s re-election was a sure thing. Team Bush – Karen Hughes, Karl Rove, Bob Novak, etc., etc. couldn’t stop themselves from gloating. They were so smug, thinking they had proven themselves the winner. Kerry beats the hell out of Bush in the first debate and sure enough Kerry is accused of gloating, proving
once and for all how despicable he is. HUH?
Kerry’s numbers now show him in a dead
heat with Bush and we are told polls mean nothing. HUH?
Can you believe the parody being sold to us as
impartial journalism?

I attended the burial of my friend Jose yesterday. More accurately, his remains were interred.
On Wednesday, September 29, 2004, the coroner’s office of New York
City, using DNA finally identified Jose’s remains. It took three years after his death on 9/11 for the process to be completed. My friend Jody and her children have existed in a sort of limbo since that day. Yesterday that chapter in their lives has finally closed and they and we his friends
will begin the healing process.
For me, part of that healing will have to include
dealing with my fury towards our current president and his administration. As
a matter of fact I can’t remember ever being as infuriated as I am at Mr. Bush and his cabinet of evil incompetents. I personally believe he is the worst president in the long history of our republic. I also believe he has damaged our country more than any other of his 42 predecessors.
I accuse him of being partially responsible for
the attacks on 9/11. If not for his total dismissal of any “Clinton” policy perhaps he would
have better understood the unstable hotbed of the Mideast.
I detest his smugness in light of his lack of
knowledge or intellectual curiosity. Perhaps if Mr. Bush had displayed a little
interest in geopolitics, he could have chosen better, more constructive methods of fighting terrorism.
I accuse him of not showing the slightest interest
in the PDB memo of August 2001 which warned of an imminent threat of attack.
I accuse him of surrounding himself with the
likes of Cheney, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld and Rice, self serving egotists with agendas of their own.
I resent the hell out of the fact that Ms. Rice
dismissed that PDB as “historic” which insults my intelligence not to mention distorting the English language.
I will never forgive him for using 9/11 as his
own personal campaign strategy, basically using the tragedy which includes many of my personal friends as some sort of photo
op.
I find it reprehensible not just that he lied
to involve us in an unnecessary and unjust invasion of Iraq but by the fact that his lies led to a mounting death toll both to our troops and to innocent Iraqi
civilians.
I accuse him of creating a hostile split among
Americans, dividing us along ideological lines. He thrives on discord and that
makes him a disseminator of strife.
I accuse both Bush and Cheney of continuing their
chicanery about Saddam, WMD’s and Iraq’s connection to 9/11 after these assertions were definitively proven false. Because of these two willful prevaricators, 40% of Americans still believe Saddam and 9/11 are unequivocally
linked.
I accuse the Bush administration of creating
a false sense of security as a re-election boast when they know we are no safer today than we were on 9/11.
I accuse the Bush contingent of conveniently
raising and lowering the terror alert to change poll numbers.
I detest their use of fear to galvanize Americans
into voting Republican.
I accuse Bush of being a caricature of an American
hero, dressed up in a flight suit pretending to be a strong warrior. Sorry George,
you had your chance during the Vietnam War and you do not get to re-invent yourself as some sort of comic book superhero.
I accuse Bush of putting our fighting men and
women in dire jeopardy by his childish dare to the insurgents of “bring ‘em on”. How dare he?
I strongly suggest Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney are
small minded, dictatorial tyrants, interested in the furtherance of their own power base and the continued well being of their
wealthy cohorts.
I accuse this administration of bringing our
country to the brink of an abyss with our demise as a strong, principled nation a real possibility.
Finally, I am disgusted at this administration
for throwing away the lives of those lost on 9/11 for some personal crusade. They
have much to answer for. Hopefully when Mr. Bush is fired on 11/02 he will use
his suddenly empty days for introspection. I take that back – he’s
too shallow for introspection. He’ll just stamp their feet and whine.
